The Port of Port Arthur has a subtropical climate with long hot humid summers, short cool winters, and barely noticeable transition seasons. Temperatures range from an average high of 33 °C (19 °F) in August to an average low of 6 °C (43 °F) in January.
The Rose Hill Manor in the Port of Port Arthur is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This 1906 colonial-style mansion was built by one of the town's first bankers and mayors, Rome H. Woodworth. The Woodworth family donated the mansion to the city in 1948. The mansion is open for tours by appointment.
Pleasure Island is a 1.4-thousand hectare manmade island in Sabine Lake where outdoor activities abound. Visitors can boat, fish, golf, hike, bike, camp, or go crabbing. A wonderful family playground, the Island contains several parks, including an RV park and campgrounds. The Port of Port Arthur Yacht Club is located at Pleasure Island.
The Museum of the Gulf Coast in Port of Port Arthur contains exhibits that include cultural and natural history, the arts, and pop culture of the region. The Music Hall features an exhibit on Janis Joplin.
Fishermen visiting Port of Port Arthur will find many opportunities for charter fishing trips. There are more than a dozen inland lakes, and three major rivers nearby, and the Gulf of Mexico offers adventures for sports fishermen.
