The Port of Newport is an official Port of Entry to the United States. Boaters visiting the Port of Newport harbor will find many amenities located centrally at the City of Newport Maritime Center, a new public boating facility inside the Armory building that is home to the Port of Newport Harbormaster. This popular Port of Newport facility contains an information center, lockers, laundry facilities, showers, ice, and Wi-Fi service.
The Port of Newport has many dinghy docks throughout the harbor at the Ann Street Pier (at the Maritime Center), the Elm Street Pier, the Newport Shipyard, Long Wharf, Bowens Wharf, Perrotti Park, and Fort Adams, among many others. The city maintains an anchorage at the south end of the harbor, and there are two federal anchorages in the Port of Newport.
The Port of Newport Shipyard offers deep-water dockage for hourly, daily, and weekly monthly rates that vary depending on the time of year. During the 2012 boating season from mid-May through the end of September daily rates were $5.25 per foot per night, weekly rates were $4.75 per foot per night, and monthly rates were $135 per foot per month. Electric service and phone jacks are available for a fee, and cable TV and wireless Internet are complimentary at most slips. The Port of Newport Shipyard also offers both inside and outside winter storage and haul-launch-store service.
The Port of Newport Shipyard offers on-site refit and repair services for yachts, recreational boats, and commercial vessels. The shipyard can handle all types of refitting and repair work including boat hauling and rigging, engineering, metal work, carpentry and joinery, mechanical and electrical repairs, painting and finishing, and hurricane haul-out. The shipyard can service military and commercial craft as well as yachts and recreational boats. On-site amenities at the Port of Newport Shipyard include a café, a fitness center, a ship's store, and Newport Shipyard Outfitters.
Historic Bannister's Wharf in the Port of Newport is located in the middle of the harbor with 30 deep-water slips, an 85.3-meter (280-foot) fixed pier, and floating docks. Bannister's Wharf serves all sizes of power boats and sailboats. Facilities at this Port of Newport marina include electric hook-ups, water, showers, and waterfront guestrooms. The wharf was created in 1742 by John Bannister as a gathering place for the Port of Newport. It has served the Port of Newport since then. Today, visitors will find galleries, boutiques, and stores along this popular Port of Newport attraction as well as the Clarke Cooke House restaurant.
The Port of Newport's Bannister's Wharf hosts the Newport International Boat Show and Summer Music Festivals. In season, the Bannister's Wharf marina is open from 8am to 8pm. Off-season, it is open from 9am to 5pm. This Port of Newport marina has 30 transient slips with a depth of 4.9 meters (16 feet) that can accommodate boats to 85.3 meters (280 feet) in length. Pump-out services are available as are fuel and electric service. Bathrooms and showers have been renovated recently, and there are laundry facilities nearby. There are also waterfront historic suites and guest rooms available at Bannister's Wharf in the Port of Newport.
Goat Island Marina in the Port of Newport is only minutes from downtown, and it is a great destination for travelers. Goat Island has a long history going back to the American Revolution when there was a military fort there. It has also hosted the modern Tall Ships Festival and several world-class sailing regattas. This deep-water facility has 175 fixed and floating slips that can support almost any sized vessel, including yachts from 4.6 to 76.2 meters (15 to 250 feet) long.
The Port of Newport's Goat Island Marina offers a variety of amenities that include a water shuttle to downtown, daily garbage collection, pump-out facilities, bathrooms and showers, electrical hook-ups, laundry facilities, satellite television, cube and block ice, and 24-hour security services. There are also meeting facilities, a Yacht Brokerage, and car rental services available.
The full-service West Wind Marina in the Port of Newport has 75 slips is located in the historic downtown. Serving both seasonal and transient boaters, the West Wind Marina offers wonderful harbor views, breathtaking sunsets, the finest cuisine, and concierge services. The marina has separate bathrooms with showers for men and women. The West Deck restaurant is located within the marina and offers fine dining. The marina Dockmaster and crew are available, with advance notice, to help boaters dock and set up at this Port of Newport marina.
Home to America's Cup Yachts, the Newport Harbor Hotel and Marina has 60 slips for transient dockages. The six 12-meter (39.4-foot) America's Cup Yachts have been beautifully restored and are available for private charters, public sunset sails, and corporate programs. Electric service is available at these Port of Newport slips for an additional fee.
