The Philadelphia Regional Port Authority is responsible for overseeing and regulating the Port of Chester.

The Port of Chester's Penn Terminal is privately owned facility on Interstate 95, one of the nation's busiest highways. Cargo can be accepted in containers or domestic trailers, and pier services are available for an additional charge. Container rail service is available.

METRO Machine of Pennsylvania owns the Port of Chester Shipyard facility about 16 kilometers south of the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. The Port of Chester facility includes a 27.9 thousand square meter structural assembly building, storage, shops, and training facilities. There are also steel yards and warehouses on the property, and the shipyard is served by main line rail service. It is also located on Interstate 95. The facility can accommodate vessels up to 274.3 meters long.
