The Port of Hartford has a long history of waterborne trade and commerce. Today, the Port of Hartford consists of a number of docks and wharves serving both public and private interests.
The Port of Hartford Riverfront Plaza State Street Landing Dock is owned by the City of Hartford and operated by the Deep River Navigation Company and Camelot Cruises, Inc. Used for the landing of excursion vessels, the city's popular Riverfront Plaza and a large parking lot are located at the rear of the dock. Located below the Port of Hartford's Founders Bridge on the right bank of Connecticut River, the Riverfront Plaza Landing Dock has berthing distance of 30.5 meters (100 feet).
The City owns the Charter Oak Landing Lower Dock in the Port of Hartford. Deep River Navigation Company operates the dock which is used for landing excursion vessels. Located below the Charter Oak Bridge on the right bank of the Connecticut River, the city's Charter Oak Landing Park and parking lot are located at the rear of the dock. A concrete boat ramp is available. This Port of Hartford dock has berthing distance of 48.8 meters (160 feet) with alongside depth of 4.6 meters (15 feet) MLW.
The Charter Oak Landing Upper Dock, also owned by the City and operated by Deep River Navigation Company, is located about 322 meters (1056 feet) above the Charter Oak Bridge in the Port of Hartford. Used for landing excursion vessels, Charter Oak Park and parking lot are located at the rear of this Port of Hartford dock. The Charter Oak Landing Upper Dock has berthing distance of 12.2 meters (40 feet) with alongside depth of 3.7 meters (12 feet).
Located about 483 meters (1584 feet) below Charter Oak Bridge in the Port of Hartford, the Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority owns and operates the South Meadow Station Wharf. Used by Covanta Mid-Conn, Inc., an open storage area at the rear of the Wharf has capacity for 70 thousand tons of coal. Used by Northeast Generation Services, the Wharf is connected by pipeline to one 119 thousand barrel capacity jet fuel storage tank. The South Meadow Station Wharf in the Port of Hartford has berthing distance of 149.4 meters (490 feet) with alongside depth of 3.7 meters (12 feet) MLW.
Amerada Hess Corporation owns the Wethersfield Terminal Wharf, although the it is not always in use. Amerada Hess Corporation has four pipelines connecting this Port of Hartford wharf to storage tanks at the rear with total capacity for 250 thousand barrels. Located about 322 meters (1056 feet) above the William Putnam Memorial Bridge in suburban Wethersfield on the right bank of the Connecticut River, the Port of Hartford's Wethersfield Terminal Wharf has berthing distance of 61 meters (200 feet) with alongside depth of 3.7 meters (12 feet) MLW.
Pratt & Whitney owns the Andrew Willgoos Turbine Laboratory Lower Dock in the Port of Hartford, although it is not always in use. Located about 2 kilometers (1.3 miles) below the Charter Oak Bridge on the left bank of the Connecticut River in East Hartford, this Port of Hartford dock is connected by pipeline to three storage tanks with total capacity for 100 thousand barrels of petroleum products. A steam line also serves the wharf. The Andrew Willgoos Turbine Laboratory Lower Dock has berthing distance of 76.2 meters (250 feet) with alongside depth of 4.6 meters (15 feet) MLW.
Pratt & Whitney also owns the Andrew Willgoos Turbine Laboratory Upper Dock in the Port of Hartford. Also not always in operation, the Upper Dock has one pipeline connecting the wharf to the same storage tanks as the Lower Dock, and it is also served by a steam line. This Port of Hartford Dock has berthing distance of 76.2 meters (250 feet) with alongside depth of 4.6 meters (15 feet) MLW.
Another Port of Hartford wharf that is not always in used, the East Hartford Terminal Dock, is owned by Sprague Energy Corporation. The dock is connected by two pipelines to five storage tanks with total capacity for 95 thousand barrels of petroleum products. Located in East Hartford about 1.6 kilometers (one mile) below the Charter Oak Bridge on the left bank of the Connecticut River, this Port of Hartford has berthing distance of 61 meters (200 feet) with alongside depth of 3.7 meters (12 feet) MLW.
